ROUND LAKE AREA SCHOOLS CUSD #116 ANNOUNCES NEW SUPERINTENDENT FOR 2018-19 SCHOOL YEAR The Round Lake Area Schools CUSD #116 Board of Education voted to approve a contract naming Dr. Donn Mendoza as its next superintendent, at their Board meeting on Monday, November 6, 2017.  Dr. Mendoza is no stranger to RLAS-116. He began making a positive impact on the students and staff of Round Lake High School upon his hire at the start of the 2013-14 school year. Dr. Mendoza has served as the Principal of Round Lake High School, Assistant Superintendent of Secondary Teaching and Learning and most recently, Deputy Superintendent of PK-14 Education. Great accomplishments have been reached under Dr. Mendoza’s leadership. Some include an impressive increase in the 4-year graduation rate from 72%

Round Lake Beach Mother a Suspect in Homicide

Jamie L. Jones, a 29-year-old of the 1800 block of Cedar Lake Road in Round Lake Beach, remains a suspect in a homicide investigation.  On July 2, 2017, the Round Lake Beach police department was notified of the death of 6-year-old Carl Rice Jr. of Round Lake Beach. The death was originally believed to have occurred in the Chicago Police Department Jurisdiction. However, further investigation revealed that the death had occurred in Round Lake Beach. The subsequent investigation revealed that while in Round Lake Beach, Jones caused injuries to Rice while at their home in the 1800 Block of Cedar Lake Rd, that Rice passed away while in Round Lake Beach, and that Jones then took Rice and her other child aboard the train to Chicago to visit relatives. While in Chicago, other family membe
