The Geo Award recognizes the volunteers for exceptional programming as well as the WRLR sponsors
On Friday, August 28th, WRLR 98.3 FM hosted the 6th Annual Geo Awards. This is a signature fundraiser for WRLR. This event is held to honor volunteer members, businesses and organizations who have contributed their time, effort and financial support to keep the station operating, and making WRLR a unique and vibrant radio station. WRLR is recognized for its volunteerism spirit and is a previous Governor’s Home Town Award nominee. This year also marks WRLR’s 10th anniversary. The event was held at Parkway Banquet hall on Long Lake in Ingleside. The food was delicious and for dessert the cake reflected their anniversary.
The WRLR Board of Directors consists of:

After recognizing many of the volunteers for the exceptional job that they are doing in various capacities within the WRLR organization, the GEO awards were finally announced. This years GEO awards went to Stan Bauer, Rich DiDomenico, Dave Sanocki, and the Village of Round Lake Heights. This years MC was music director Mick Cullen along with station manager Cheryl Dunlap and program director Pat Cameron as presenters.
The following video is the cocktail hour prior to the awards being announced.
This years entertainment consisted of Holly Beemer who is 15 years old. She took 2nd Place at the Antioch Idol in 2013, winning a $2,000 scholarship. In 2014 Holly sang a powerful version of Etta James “At Last” during the Gurnee Idol contest. Her performance was reported to have given the judges goose bumps. This year Holly took 1st place at Gurnee Idol. Holly plays guitar, sings, and composes original music. The first song in this video is one that she composed called “So Bad”. Also on the entertainment agenda was a band called Waterfront Dogs but I wasn’t able to stick around long enough to hear much more than their first song which sounded great.
This year I was once again the guest of Elena Lara. Thank you, Elena!
