Murphy Elementary School Receives $5,000 in Back-to-School Program Donation

The Meemic Foundation supplies to local schools as part of Schools in Need program The Meemic Foundation, a non-profit organization created by Meemic Insurance Company, partnered up with local Illinois Meemic agents to surprise Murphy Elementary School in Round Lake Park with basic back-to-school supplies purchased through Quill.com and a Second Step 1st-5th grade bundle on Friday, September 15th. Murphy Elementary is one of three schools in Illinois that will receive a supply donation, valued at over $5,000 as part of the Schools in Need program. Murphy Elementary was devastated by flooding that caused significant damage within the school this past July. With notepads in hand, fifth-grade students at Beach Elementary School in Round Lake Beach geared up for an exciting day of learning about careers that may await them one day. On Tuesday, November 22, 2016, Beach School’s gymnasium was set up in “job-fair” fashion, with representatives placed at individual stations providing information about their current career. Students had an opportunity to meet with engineers, a scientist, salesmen, interior decorator, biologist, actor, nurse, business owners, Army veteran, stay at home mom, banker, musician and more! Round Lake High School Winter Guard Success! The Best Season Ever! The Round Lake High School Varsity Winter Guard had their best season ever this year! They most recently took home the gold at the MWCGC Championship Competition, which was held in La Porte, IN on April 2-3, 2016. The team competes in the Mid-West Color Guard Circuit against teams from Illinois, Indiana, Iowa and Wisconsin. Their regional season record was outstanding, taking home three 1st place trophies and two 2nd place trophies. The team was seeded 2nd going into the Championships and narrowly beat out the number 1 seeded team to win! Round Lake Area Schools Hosts 3rd Annual Talent Expo A Spotlight on Extraordinary Student Talent! A spotlight will shine brightly on a large group of talented students from Round Lake Area Schools CUSD #116 in grades K-12 next Wednesday, April 20, 2016. Forty-five students will be performing on the big stage in front of a crowd of approximately 500 attendees highlighting their talents, including from vocal, dance and instrumental. Visual arts displays will fill the room from another 350+ students from across the school district. The Talent Expo is the district’s largest fundraising event of the year. WJ Murphy 5th Graders Interview Community Members On Thursday, April 7th, 5th graders at W.J. Murphy Elementary School in D116 interviewed a number of community members about their professions. According to team leader, Frieda Kolas, the idea was sparked by a 21st century writing project about community interviews in the literacy curriculum.  The team of teachers brainstormed ideas and reached out to the community for volunteers.
