Trees Planted at Ellis Elementary and Beach Elementary School
The Village of Round Lake Beach was excited to learn that they would be the recipient of a Living Lands & Waters MillionTrees grant that would give them an opportunity to purchase and plant 400 trees throughout the Round Lake Beach community. Understanding the importance of connecting with schools within the area, Village staff reached out to see if students from Round Lake Area Schools CUSD #116 would like to participate in an Arbor Day special event.
Ellis Elementary and Beach Elementary Schools, both located with-in Round Lake Beach, jumped at the opportunity! On Friday, April 29, 2016 – Arbor Day – students watched as the Round Lake Beach Director of Public Works, Scott Hilts, public works employee Frank Wuchter, and Phil Megginson from the Brickman Group planted a Swamp White Oak tree at each school. 125 students at each of the schools also went home with their very own tree to plant with their family.
Students at Ellis Elementary learn how to properly plant the tree that they will take home with them after school.
Once the tree was planted at Ellis School, Scott, Frank, and Phil drove over to Beach Elementary where they showed those students how to plant a tree and care for it.
