Round Lake Beach officials promote 22 year veteran to replace retiring Chief Gary Bitler
At a specially called village board meeting on March 17, 2014, veteran police Commander David Hare was promoted to the position of Chief of Police. This followed the announcement that Chief Gary Bitler was retiring. The two have worked side by side for the last twenty years and Chief Bitler will stay on for the next two weeks to make the transformation a smooth one. Even grown men who deal with life threatening events can get a little choked up when it comes time to be recognized for their hard work and have their family and peers there to see them rewarded.
David Hare began his career as a police officer for Round Lake Beach on January 6, 1992. During his tenure, he rose through the ranks of the department, and also attended both Northwestern School of Police and Command staff and the FBI National Academy.
Commander Hare holds a Bachelor’s Degree from Northern Illinois University and a
Master‘s degree in Public Administration from Roosevelt University. He has also been an adjunct instructor with Northwestern University’s Center for Public Safety for seven years. David has been married to his wife Kim for 19 years and together they are raising 3 children
We wish outgoing Chief Bitler all the best in his retirement and welcome incoming Chief Hare.
