Congressman Walsh’s Sept. 8th Jobs Forum

Congressman Walsh flew home on September 8, 2011 to meet with small business owners in Schaumburg, Illinois to talk to them about how the government regulations and taxes are preventing them from creating jobs. He will be submitting the small business owners recommendations and concerns, from the meeting, directly to the President.

From the Congressman:

WASHINGTON – Rep. Joe Walsh (IL-08) held a small business job forum in Illinois yesterday evening to hear directly from job creators instead of standing-in as a prop for President Obama’s political address. The forum – held at the Prairie Center for the Arts in Schaumburg, Illinois – was attended by over 100 small business owners. Walsh is chair of the House Small Business Committee’s Subcommittee on Economic Growth, Tax, and Capital Access.

“The American people and Congress heard more of the same last night” said Walsh. “The President’s plan will do little to help small businesses that are struggling with countless new regulations and in finding access to capital to create jobs.”

“This about-face is nothing more than political rhetoric to save a sinking presidency. We have heard for too long that the President is serious about job creation. Yet, the simple fact that this Administration has failed to grasp is that the American people just want the government to get out their way.”

“This is the message I heard last night at my jobs forum. Small business owners want permanent tax relief, less government regulation, and certainty that the government will not pass more mandates.”

“President Obama stated last night that he ‘ordered a review of all government regulations.’ The facts, however, prove otherwise. There are over 219 new regulatory actions under consideration for the upcoming year, some of which will have an economic cost of at least $1 billion each. How are small business owners supposed to believe the President? No wonder why business owners last night voiced that there is just so much uncertainty ahead.”

“The voices of small business owners I met with last night must be heard loud-and-clear by the President – and to ensure they are, I will soon be sending a letter to the President laying out specific recommendations that were made. I hope the President will take action on these items right away.”
