Haran’s husband, Michael, posted a hint on his Facebook page today which said:
Change of plans. We’ve decided to enjoy the summer with our children instead.
Cynthia Pruim Haran then added:
And the money we are not using for the campaign will be set aside for (other things)
[followed by what seemed like a lot of relief] Seriously, I am so looking forward to every day of sunshine and rain!!! And—bring on the beach!!!
Haran told a reporter from the Daily Herald, who may have also seen her post, that she had been in discussion with the head of the Lake County Democrats on several occasions informing him “in my heart I know it is the right decision for my family.” This is a much different Cynthia than the ‘fighter’ I videotaped at her Cinderella fund raiser.
Unable to convince her to remain in the race, the local Democratic Party now needs to decide who would be their best chance to beat Brin, who defeated local attorney Jerry Dietz in the primary race.
The following is Cynthia Pruim Haran’s full announcement that was posted around 2:00 PM Monday afternoon:
After much thought, discussion and prayer I have decided to withdraw from the race for Clerk of the Circuit Court.
By no means was this an easy decision. But, in my heart I know it is the right decision for my family.
My husband, Michael, and I have one main goal in life- to raise 3 happy, healthy children in a difficult world. We believe the best way to do this is to step away from the very pub…lic demands of a countywide campaign.
To the family, friends and voters who supported us along the way- I thank you from the very bottom of my heart. We are lucky to have met so many wonderful people!
Senator Link and my fellow democrats, I thank you for your support during the campaign and this difficult decision process.
To my fellow candidates, on both sides of the aisle, I wish you all the best over these next few months! Many of you are dear friends and colleagues and you have my utmost respect and support!
To the voters –know that you hold the power to change Lake County-and beyond-in the palm of your hands! Execise that power–and VOTE!
Thank you all for your support and understanding.
