Teardown begins on Mallard Creek Shopping Plaza for new Meijer Store
After spending several weeks gutting the inside of the Mallard Creek Shopping Plaza and salvaging anything worthwhile, the walls finally started coming down on the vacant Walmart store as well as most of the nearby structures. The last of the tenants moved out several months ago and after utilities and necessary permits were obtained and satisfied, the wrecking crews started on the north end of the compound.
The glass had been removed as well as aluminum, tin, and other material/fixtures that could be recycled. Although there have been some delays, including one of the coldest winters on record, Meijers still hopes to get their new store up and running as soon as possible. It will include a convenience center near Rollins Road for those who just want to fill up their tank and grab some bread, milk, etc. without having to enter the main store. Fuel will be available 24/7 but the convenience center will close around 11:00 PM.
