Revised ordinance appears in mailboxes before the Board’s vote!
Residents in the Village of Round Lake Park received a newsletter in their mailboxes September 3rd which included the newly revised ordinance for leaf burning within the Village. However, the revisions to the existing ordinance weren’t voted on until Tuesday’s Board meeting on September 2nd. You might say that they got the cart before the horse with their newsletter mailing. This type of activity may be why members of the public seldom attend village board meetings since there is often very little discussion on agenda items and input from the public is often a moot point.
In the past, residents in Round Lake Park couldn’t burn leaves on Tuesday, Thursday, or Sunday. The approved revision now allows leaf burning all day, everyday, except Sundays.
The Village of Round Lake revised their leaf burning ordinance at their January 1st meeting which now allows leaf, twigs, and vegetation burning from 8:00 AM until sunset and such burning shall be limited to leaves and twigs generated from vegetation upon the property. There are other limitations such as not causing a hazard, the individual being a certain age, etc.
The Villages of Round Lake Beach and the Village of Round Lake Heights do NOT allow leaf burning within their boundaries.
How do you feel about open leaf burning on small 40 foot lots that may have very little open space away from permanent structures?
