You couldn’t have asked for better weather for celebrating the 75th Anniversary of Round Lake Beach at their annual Beachfest this weekend. There was so much to see and do that it was spread out over three days beginning Friday night with the crowning of the new 2012 Miss Round Lake Area Pageant winners.
To help kick off the opening ceremonies on Saturday, Congressman Bob Dold stopped by and also spent about fifteen minutes talking live on the air with hosts from our local FM radio station WRLR at 98.3
As always, if it weren’t for the sponsors as well as all the wonderful vendors and individuals who took the time to set up their lovely craft displays, an event like this would not be possible. I arrived early so that i could get photos of all the beautiful, and often hand-made, crafts that were on display. Anyone looking for that special ‘one-of-a-kind’ gift was certain to find it at the Beachfest event. There was also the Motorcycle Show with plenty of chrome to look at. Trustee Larry Mount told me that his little scooter wanted to be a big Harley when it grows up! Maybe he should have parked it out with the Harley Fat Boys and Low Riders for inspiration.
This year also included, for the first time, a Lumberjack Show which was exceptionally entertaining and a portion of it can be seen at the end of the video. Audience members over 18 were invited to try their luck at log-rolling after the shows but I didn’t see too many takers. Even the professional log rollers wound up in the water as they tried to run across the bobbing logs. Audience volunteers also helped cut wood and yell “Timber” to see who the winner would be.
Below is a short video of this years Beachfest with opening remarks by Congressman Bob Dold.
