I was invited to stop by and visit the Head Start “Family Fun Fair” at St. Paul Lutheran Church on Greenwood Drive in Round Lake Park. While there I met Marie Bryant who oversees six sites as their Facilities Coordinator, Amber Swiderek who is the Center Director at St. Paul Lutheran Church, and Teresa Gutierrez, Family Development Specialist. They are in the video passing out stuffed animals to children who visited all of the stations at the Fun Fair.
Head Start is currently accepting applications for their 2015-2016 school year. If you have a child(ren) who will be three before September 1st, they may be eligible to participate in the FREE Pre-K Early Childhood Education Program.
The Head Start Program is a program of the United States Department of Health and Human Services that provides comprehensive early childhood education, health, nutrition, and parent involvement services to low-income children and their families. The program’s services and resources are designed to foster stable family relationships, enhance children’s physical and emotional well-being, and establish an environment to develop strong cognitive skills. The transition from preschool to elementary school imposes diverse developmental challenges that include requiring the children to engage successfully with their peers outside of the family network, adjust to the space of a classroom, and meet the expectations the school setting provides.

[from the editor] Sometimes in our haste to get a story out we forget to mention some of the people and businesses behind the scenes. As you watch the following video be sure to notice the little girl at the 3:40 minute mark who just received a stuffed animal and proceeds to go off into her own little world with it. Thank You to companies like Kohl’s who are always willing to say Yes when they are approached for donations such as the boxes of stuffed animals that were given away at this event.
