On Sunday, June 7, 2015, the Round Lake Beach Police Department once again participated in the annual Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics Illinois. This video shows the officers who participated this year accepting the Torch from the Lake Villa Police Department at Route 83 and Monaville Road and carrying it to Route 83 and Shorewood Drive where they handed it off to the Grayslake Police Department. The RLBPD officers who participated were Commander Michael Barr, Commander Wayne Wilde, Detective Gardiner Wade, and Officer Dave Duncan. Also running with the officers and carrying the Torch was Commander Wilde’s son.

When they approached Rollins Road it started to sprinkle a little but by the time they reached the entrance to Avon School it was coming down pretty heavy. My original plans were to tape the beginning, park somewhere near Rollins and tape them jogging through the new intersection, and then get to Shorewood in time for the Torch hand-off to Grayslake’s PD. I sincerely want to say Thank You to the officers at the site for inviting me to ride along in one of the squads and to Officer Sanchez for letting me ride “shotgun” and pulling up alongside the runners so that I could get a few side view shots. Round Lake Area School Board President, Nanci Radford, was one of the few who ventured out to cheer on the runners and was also invited to ride along with Officer Sanchez.

Due to the mobile communication being broadcast in the squad I muted the audio and replaced it with an assortment of music clips. ENJOY!!
