A Round Lake area hidden gem
We all love big fancy restaurants, but we never want to forget about places that are less talked about, but have been tirelessly serving our area for years. One of those places is Leo’s Chicago in Round Lake which hasn’t experienced as much buzz because it’s one of those kinds of places that are literally tucked away in back corners and strip malls. These deserving haunts are worth a visit, or maybe a half dozen visits because they are that good. The best part about this emerald is that’s it’s hidden in plain sight. The modest, almost severely quiet spot was opened by Leo and his brother Jose Morales a little over ten years ago in the Valley Lakes Plaza.
Leo’s Chicago recently held a Grand Re-Opening at their new location which is still located in the same strip mall at 399 N. Wilson Road in Round Lake. Round Lake’s Mayor Daniel MacGillis along with Trustee Don Newby and Chief of Police Michael Gillette helped cut the ribbon on July 11th.

It’s actually not that surprising to many of their “regulars” that some of the best pizza and sandwiches in the area can be found just off Wilson Avenue inside the Valley Lakes Plaza. Residents from several nearby suddivisions can attest to that. Everything from burgers, hot dogs, fries, Italian beef, chicken sandwiches, Gyros, tacos, and a selection of delicious Mexican food is presented at a reasonable price in a timely fashion. You will enjoy the casual indoor dining area as well as a few smaller tables that now offer outdoor seating.
People have been finding this casual, hidden gem as the place to go since 2005. It’s the place to stop after baseball and football games, after the movies, after swim meets. or just when you want something tasty to satisfy your hunger.
Co-owner Jose Morales says “fresh ingredients and a friendly staff are our keys to success”. “We typically have a very busy lunch crowd,” he said. “It’s exciting being in our new location and continuing to serve our community with a full menu of high-quality food at reasonable prices”. Other family members working at the grill, besides his brother Leo, include his mother Reynalda, brother Antonio, and sister-in-law Magaly.
Leo’s Chicago may be under-the-radar now, but it won’t remain that way for much longer now that they have moved into their new location. Stop by and try some of their wide-range of delicious food choices. They are open Monday thru Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. Sunday’s hours are 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Leo’s Chicago can be reached at (847) 740-6591 Their address is 399 N. Wilson Road in Round Lake, IL 60073 (just north of Nippersink Road)
