Alexander D. Vandergriff, age 18 of Round Lake Beach, IL has earned the Eagle Scout rank, the highest rank attainable within the Boy Scouts of America. About seven percent of all Boy Scouts earned the Eagle Scout rank in 2012. Alex is an active member of Venturing Crew 275, which is chartered by Calvary Presbyterian Church, Round Lake, IL. To complete the Eagle rank requirements Alex had to earn twenty-one merit badges, demonstrate Scout Spirit, plan, develop and give leadership to others in a service project that benefits an organization other than Boy Scouting. Alex’s Eagle project was for St. Joseph School in Round Lake, which consisted of building storage-table-racks for the school’s multipurpose room, cleaning, painting and hanging lockers in the locker rooms.
Alex will be recognized for his achievement at 7:00 pm on Saturday, October 12, 2013 at the Sports Center in Round Lake Beach. During his time in Crew 275 Alex served as Crew President, Secretary, and Treasurer. He completed numerous trainings including the Leadership Skills for Crews, and is a member of the Order of the Arrow, Scouting’s National Honor Society. Alex also worked at Camp Oakarro in Wadsworth, IL as a STEM Program Director and Camp Counselor.
Alex is a freshman at the Milwaukee School of Engineering in Milwaukee, WI where he is majoring in Mechanical Engineering. His ambition is to design roller coasters and other amusement park rides. Alex is a 2013 graduate of Round Lake Senior High. Alex is the son of David and Jean Vandergriff of Round Lake Beach.
