Local area Scouts have more to talk about than a high video game score!
Several Boy Scouts and Venture Scouts from the Round Lake Area departed in two separate groups for a high adventure trek to the Philmont Scout Ranch in Cimarron, NM. Philmont Scout Ranch is the Boy Scouts of America’s largest national High Adventure Base. Its 34 staffed camps and 55 trail camps provide an unforgettable adventure in the high country along hundreds of miles of rugged, rocky trails.
More than 1 million Scouts, Venturers, and leaders have experienced the adventure of Philmont since the first camping season in 1939. Throughout its existence, conscientious attention to low-impact camping techniques has helped maintain the Ranch’s wilderness.
The area surrounding the Ranch is rich with history, from the Native Americans who made this arid land their home to the land barons of the 19th century.
Eight boys and four adults from Fox Lake Boy Scout Troop 85 departed for Philmont Scout Ranch on July 18th and will return home on August 1st.
The Scouts are, Crew Leader Alex Houge, Timmy Baldocchi, Ben Berger, Storm Davis, Zach Guzy, Jeff Helmich, Chris Vroman, and Kyle Wooley. The adults accompanying them are Scoutmaster Mike Anderson, Tim Baldocchi, Julie Houge and Scott Smith. Alex Houge and Ben Berger attend Round Lake Senior High and Alex is a former Cub Scout from Round Lake Super Pack 199.
