Rodrigo Acosta-Cabellero of the 1500 Block of East End Ave, Round Lake Beach, was arrested on several counts
On 03/12/17 at 9:59 pm. the Round Lake Beach police department responded to a Domestic Battery call in the 1500 Block of East End Ave. Officers learned a subject had been punched in the head several times and was able to flee the scene. Further information revealed that four other subjects were barricaded in a bedroom as the suspect in the domestic battery was now armed with a machete and the four subjects feared for their safety. Those subjects eventually escaped through a window.
Responding officers attempted to communicate with the suspect, Rodrigo Acosta-Cabellero who then came outside towards officers as he was waving a machete and yelling for officers to shoot him. At that time an officer was able to shoot him with Less Lethal Bean Bag rounds and he retreated into the home. He refused to communicate with officers, and the Northern Illinois Police Alarm System (NIPAS) Emergency Services Team (EST) was requested. Negotiators attempted to establish communications with the subject, but he still refused. Eventually, both CS and OC gas were put into the home in hopes that the subject would leave the home, but he did not. NIPAS EST eventually entered the home, and using Tasers they were able to immobilize the subject while they took him into custody at 4:03 am. The subject is currently at bond court. He was charged with: Aggravated Unlawful Restraint (5 counts) Aggravated Domestic Battery (1 count) Battery (1 count) Resisting a Peace Officer (2 counts)
