Congratulations to our 2016 Round Lake Area Queens
On June 23rd candidates for this year’s Round Lake Area Queens competed at a lavish affair held at the Round Lake Beach Cultural & Civic Center. The young ladies introduced themselves, appeared in various forms of attire, answered several questions from the moderator, and waited anxiously for the results. When the judges combined their scores, the winners were announced. They were: Brigid Finan, Little Miss Round Lake Area 2016; Samantha L Thibault, Junior Miss Round Lake Area 2016; and Adriana Rodriguez-Ruiz, Miss Round Lake Area 2016.
Little Miss Round Lake Area 2016, Brigid Finan, is the daughter of Tony and Sheila Finan of Round Lake Beach. Brigid is a third grader, already taking accelerated math, at Thompson Elementary School and wants to be a teacher of technology for all ages when she grows up. She is also a Leukemia survivor who loves to play basketball. One of the fun things she has recently done was to ride the roller coaster, Goliath, with her hands up! In her free time she likes to play drums, swim at the Round Lake Area Park District pool, jump on a trampoline, read, write, and practice math. When time allows, Brigid does whatever she can to help the local citizens of the Round Lake Area
Junior Miss Round Lake Area 2016, Samantha L Thibault, is the daughter of Jen Thibault of Round Lake and John Thibault of Fox Lake. Samantha lives in the Village of Round Lake and is a sophomore at Grant Community High School. Her dream is to become an astronomer or astrophysicist while working at a major University or for NASA. Samantha is a persistent person when it comes to reaching the goals that she sets for herself. She considers herself to be quite adventurous and likes to try new foods and activities. Like most teenagers Samantha likes to hang out with her friends, enjoys drawing, playing chess and softball. Traveling is also right up there near the top of her list.
Miss Round Lake Area 2016, Adriana Rodriguez-Ruiz, is the daughter of Rosa M. Ruiz and Adrian Rodriguez. She lives in Round Lake Park and is a senior at Round Lake High School (Yea, Class of 2017). Adriana has charted quite a course for her future which includes starting and finishing undergrad studies, then majoring in International Relations. After that she plans to attend the Peace Corps, attend law school and begin a career in government, working towards a position at the United Nations. She has already served two internships at Rod Drobinski for State Representative and Robert Dold for Congress along with completing an AP U.S. Government course at Princeton University during the summer of 2015. Adriana is bilingual (Spanish and English) and is working towards becoming fluent in French.
Adriana also completed a conservation program at Cornell University’s Lab of Ornithology during the summer of 2015, visited the United Nations Headquarters in Manhattan and met with the Chief of Peace Keeping during the summer of 2015, and will be attending a government program with Turning Point at George Washington University at the end of this month.
Our new Miss Round Lake Area 2016 was also Little Miss Round Lake Area 2007. Besides her busy schedule, she has enjoyed ballroom dancing for the past 10 years, knows how to fly-fish, and has been on multiple backpacking and canoeing trips. She will also be a first-generation college student. As you can see there isn’t a lot of free time for Adriana but when she does find some time you will likely find her organizing her Spotify playlists, stargazing, watching Netflix, making omelets, or simply relaxing while reading political articles in the NY Times, which she finds to be typically more unbiased than other news sources.
