Eastbound Clarendon drivers can no longer make a left turn onto Hainesville Road
For those of you who are in a habit of turning left onto Hainesville Road from eastbound Clarendon, you need to be aware that it could now be a costly mistake. Recently, there were signs put up that now forbid left turns. Yet on a short stop to watch drivers at the intersection I found that almost 50% of them made the illegal left turn. I’m not sure why the village, and possibly the County, decided that turning left should no longer be allowed. Since Clarendon runs northeasterly most drivers aren’t planning on going south when they get to the intersection. Hopefully when the curbing along the west side of Hainesville is completed and the orange barrels are removed, drivers will once again be allowed to make left turns. In the meantime be aware that tickets can run a minimum of $150 plus court costs. In the video below you will see numerous drivers making the illegal left turn with many of them merely making a rolling stop. The biker doesn’t even put a foot down and goes around an SUV that could have been blocking his view of northbound Hainesville traffic. I will be out there a few more times recording traffic at this intersection to see if the same percentage of drivers are still turning left and posting the results here. If you don’t want to be captured on video I suggest that you do not turn left.
