It was a perfect day for the 2012 Dachshund Derby held for the 5th straight year at Petland in Round Lake Beach. A chance of afternoon showers never materialized and the races went off without a hitch. The first races were held with puppies from the store that were available for adoption and you can see from the video they were more interested in mingling with each other than racing. The balance of the Dachshund Derby races included numerous heats until the final winner was named. Once again there was the ‘best costume’ event which could also involve the public and many dressed up to accent their dogs attire. There were several catagories in the costume contest.

The proceeds went to the Avon Township Community Foundation which will be passing the funds on to the Avon Township Food Pantry. One young lad named Rian, the son of Rupam Davé and Keith West, donated the entire contents of his piggy bank to the food pantry.
