As reported on the McHenryCountyBlog, yet another moderator, Susan Ruether, from the Washington County League of Women Voters was interrupted by Patriotic Americans who believe in reciting the Pledge of Allegiance. This happened at a Congressional Debate being held at Peters Middle School Tuesday evening. As reported by Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, the moderator had the same problem dealing with the simple request as the moderator, Kathy Tate-Bradish, did at the Grayslake LWV forum, by saying “that was “not a usual way” the league started the forums
A portion from the Post Gazette’s article reports that:
“Former Peters Township High School principal Tom Hajzus was sitting in the front row with a 22-year-old Marine veteran wounded by a bomb in Afghanistan.
“The insensitivity, to me, was inexcusable and outrageous,” said the registered Democrat and Murphy supporter. The crowd’s reaction “was an American moment, that’s what that was,” he said.
Arlene Levy, co-chair of the Greater Pittsburgh League of Women Voters chapter, stated that the league adheres strictly to its agendas — whether they include a pledge or not.
Are these voters also going to be labeled “phony Patriots” by the LWV?
