Rep. Walsh, The Most Accessible Congressman

Representative Joe Walsh from Illinois Congressional District 8 made the comment at his recent Fox Lake ‘town hall’ meeting that no one on the planet is more accessible than he is, scheduling more meetings with his constituents than any other elected official. During the Congressional recess he has scheduled 10 town hall meetings in 10 days. I attended the one that was held at his Fox Lake Headquarters from 1:00 to 2:30 which was called a ‘brown bag’ (bring your own) lunch with the Congressman.

Showing up at about 12:45 with a sandwich, fries, and a soda, I was surprised to find his office already filled almost to capacity.

Representative Walsh was equally amazed, expecting around 15 or 20 at a mid-afternoon meeting when many would be at work. About an hour into the meeting he was advised of something that needed his immediate attention and told the audience that, for the first time ever, he would have to cut the meeting short and leave. I’m sure that the large turnout played a BIG part in him changing his mind and electing to stay and field more questions until 2:30.

Below is a video of the meeting if you are interested in hearing what he had to say. In the video he also addresses his child support issue with a short reply to a couple attendees who questioned it.
