Thirty five years of dedicated service to the Village of Round Lake Beach
At their March 24, 2014 Village Board meeting, Mayor Rich Hill and the Trustees passed a Resolution honoring retiring Chief of Police Gary Bitler. Chief Bitler started his law enforcement career with the Village 35 years ago and has held every position within the department. As a surprise, an anonymous person enlisted the services of a bagpiper who played several songs for the Chief.
There were a number of police officers in attendance as well as the Chairman of the Police Commission, Ralph Unrath, and the Police Chaplain, Reverend Lisle Kauffman. With his wife Sue and children Natalie and Brett by his side, Chief Bitler made a short speech thanking the Mayor and Trustees as well as those in attendance. There is a retirement party planned for later in the week as well.
