Accepting the Freedom Shrine was Murphy School Principal Philip Georgia
The Round Lake Area Exchange Club dedicated another Freedom Shrine at Round Lake Park’s Murphy Elementary School on Wednesday, April 16, 2014.
School Superintendent Dr. Constance Collins made the welcoming address followed by the Pledge of Allegiance and Star Spangled Banner by Celia Palamalayil and Leah Parmas.
The Heart of America & school song were sang/played by Brooke Goshinsk, Aneesa Jordan, Ariella Torres. Lizeth Carrillo, Natalie Castro, and Alexandra Rueda.
The dedication address was by 10th Congressional District Representative Brad Schneider followed by the Freedom Shrine dedication by Round Lake Park Police Chief George Filenko. Accepting the Freedom Shrine dedication plaque was Murphy School Principal Philip Georgia. Closing remarks were by Dr. Collins.
In their addresses, the speakers had to keep in mind the age level of their audience. I thought that they all did a tremendous job of getting their points across to the 650+ young students who were in the gymnasium to witness the Freedom Shrine dedication. I did, however, miss hearing Judy Armstrong’s comments regarding all the crossed out words and added verbiage on many of the documents hanging on the wall as our forefathers created the laws of the land for a new independent country, the United States of America.
