Round Lake Heights Trustee Jack Germann, who moved to Indian Hill in 1957 with his wife and two children before the village changed its name to Round Lake Heights, was honored at the May village board meeting with a street named in his honor. Trustee Germann is the longest serving official on the village board.
There was some discussion at the April 14th Board meeting when the vote was being taken with Trustee Meeks stating that she was not in favor of the street sign because she felt that type of honor was normally awarded to someone who made a profound difference in history or in the quality of life and she did not feel that as Trustees they fall into that category.
Mayor Lumpkins then stated that this was an honorary street sign which would go above the regular street sign and only be up for a pre-determined amount of time as determined by the Board. He also stated that the “park” was a more permanent fixture.
In regard to the park that the Mayor was speaking about, it would appear to be the new Round Lake Heights park located at the corner of Lotus and Mohawk Drive directly across the street from the Round Lake Middle School. There is no sign on the property yet acknowledging that it is a RLH park but the location was in the minutes of the meeting.
Congratulations Trustee Germann and thank you for your many years of public service.
