On Tuesday of this week contractors at the Rollins Road Gateway Project started pouring concrete where the new Rollins Road will pass in front of Mallard Creek Shopping Center (expect that name to change once Meijer rebuilds it). As I made my rounds today I saw one of the workers boring the holes in the sides of the two new lanes for the steel rods that will create a solid bond when the center portion gets poured. I was also told by someone not associated with the project that they were now working seven days a week in order to make up for time lost during the exceptionally cold winter as well as the recent heavy rains.
One thing I noticed as I reviewed the following SHORT video is the heavy curve in the road that I don’t recall being on Rollins Road before. It always seemed like a straight shot past McDonald’s, over the tracks, and past the east side shopping centers.
