An almost perfect day for a Memorial Day Parade
A few sprinkles tried to ruin this years Round Lake Area Memorial Day Parade but they stopped as fast as they started and rain did not become an issue. This years parade route was shortened and started at A-Tire just north of the railroad tracks on Cedar Lake Road. In previous years it always started at the American Legion Post on Route 134 (Main Street) in Round Lake Park. Prior to the start of the parade they held the traditional Memorial Service at the Memorial Park across from the train station. There were quite a number of participants in this years parade and one notable one was the new State Bank of the Lakes entry which was a pair of Renegade Clydesdale’s pulling a bright red wagon. They appear in the following video at about the 23 minute mark.
The parade ended at the Round Lake Beach Memorial Park where they held a memorial service, calling out the names of those who gave the ultimate sacrifice. The Reverend Lisle Kauffman led everyone in prayer and along with RLB Mayor Rich Hill commented on remembering what Memorial Day is really all about.
