Why teens chose the design?
Teen Advisory Board and teens in general with multiple ideas on the best use of the limited space we had. One of the key concepts that kept coming up was increasing seating capacity. Unfortunately, the original space had limited and immobile seating, where a minimum of four library users would occupy the whole space. With the growing number of students and library users, we felt expanding seating capacity was paramount. The color scheme and modular furniture were a response to the challenge of increasing seating capacity while maintaining the aspect of open space. The clean, crisp look of the birch countertops, chairs, and bamboo fiber-woven floors will give a unique and calming contrast to the dark blue main wall. This will be a space where students can come and study in a relaxed environment or hang out for an impromptu movie night!
How this will benefit teens?
The new teen space will be decorated with modern pop culture art, access to USB and electrical outlets, comfortable furniture for both leisure and work, and ample space to congregate. By having a space uniquely their own, with materials catered to their age groups , teens and young adults will feel welcome, encouraged, and appreciated at our library.
What plans do you have for the zone?
Immediate plans include a contest to rename our new teen area, an invitation to local artists to display their art work, and gathering more input to see how to best meet Teens needs.
