The “Chili” Autumn Night sponsored by the Round Lake Beach Cultural & Civic Center Foundation was held Saturday evening and although the evening got a bit chilly, it was warmed up by the six contestants competing for the Best Chili Award. The event proceeds will benefit the Free Summer Children’s Cultural Concert Series. Besides the Annual Chili Cook-Off there was Beer tasting, DJ Music, Food, Beer & Beverage sales, a Meat Raffle, Hayrides, Bon Fire, S’Mores & More!
Attendees were treated to a spectacular African Hand Drums Performance
The beer and wine tasting was sponsored by Philip Grenier from Wine Knows located in the Washington Square Center across from CLC in Grayslake. Avon Township Supervisor Sam Yingling
There were several candidates for public office besides contestant #3, Gerald Dietz who is running on the GOP ticket for Circuit Court Clerk of Lake County. Also in attendance were both Mike Nerheim, candidate for Lake County State’s Attorney and Steve Newton, who is running for Lake County Coroner.
Avon Township Supervisor Sam Yinglingwho is a candidate for State Representative of the newly created 62nd District was also at the Chili Cook-Off event.
I’m sure that we will all be seeing more and more candidates out and about hoping that we will sign their petition in order to officially put them on the March 20, 2012 primary election ballot. Just remember that your signature MUST match ‘exactly’ the way you are registered to vote or it stands a good chance of being challenged by the opposing party(ies).
The Chili Cook-Off Awards went to:
1st Place = Lauren Fleming, contestant #1 with a milder chili recipe that the entire family would enjoy, especially the kids.
2nd Place: Chris Jones & Natasha Nicratko, contestants #4 with a slightly spicy chili recipe that some liked with crushed pineapple.
3rd Place: Gerald (Jerry) Dietz, contestant #3 with another tasty, more spicy recipe.
The best decorated table also went to Jerry Dietz and his lovely wife, Laura Benesch-Dietz.
