Round Lake Beach was the first of the four Villages to light their tree for the Holidays. The event kicked off on November 28th at the Round Lake Beach Village Hall at 6:00 with carolers from the Round Lake High School Choir singing several Christmas carols. Santa and Mrs. Claus were due to arrive around 6:15 via a fire truck but as that time came and went it was discovered that they had landed their sleigh and reindeer in a grassy area near fire station #3 only to discover that all the fire trucks were out on calls. Round Lake Beach Chief of Police David Hare sprang into action and grabbed a nearby squad car and headed over to get Santa and Mrs. Claus. Meanwhile, the carolers continued to entertain the anxious, and now very cold, crowd that had gathered. All ended well with Santa flipping the switch that lit up the tree for the 2014 Holiday Season.
Afterwards, everyone was invited to stop by the Round Lake Beach Cultural and Civic Center for cookies and hot chocolate. While there, the children could get their photos taken with Santa and Mrs. Claus as well as create their very own holiday ornaments. Our Round Lake Area Queens were also at the event to welcome the visitors and help children with their craft projects. There will be more tree lighting events including Round Lake on Dec. 5th at 6:00, Round Lake Heights on Dec. 6th at 7:00, and Round Lake Park on Dec. 6th at 6:00. Residents in Hainesville and Grayslake can check their Village website for their tree lighting schedules.
