Round Lake Area Exchange Club Recognizes October 2015 Youth of the Month
The Round Lake Area Exchange Club has kicked off their Youth Recognition initiative this month through the Youth of the Month program. According to the National Exchange Club website, “one of the most popular Exchange youth projects, the Youth of the Month Award recognizes hard-working high school students who attain high levels of scholastic achievement, community involvement and leadership. This proven program not only rewards outstanding young people, but also provides an incentive for other youngsters to strive for equally high levels of achievement.”
The 2015-2016 Youth of the Month theme is, “responsible citizenship for a strong America!” The October Youth of the Month, Round Lake High School senior, Katie Carranza, was recognized at their meeting on Wednesday, October 15, 2015. Paula Rohrs, President-elect of the Round Lake Area Exchange Club, presented Katie with a certificate, an Amazon gift card, and a gift card to Diana’s Hair Salon.
Katie has a 3.9 GPA and is enrolled in almost all honors and advanced placement courses. Katie is very involved in school activities including theater, Secretary of Tri-M Music Honor Society, National Honors Society, Panther Leader/Panther Crew, Vice President of Student Council, volunteer tutor at the Round Lake Public Library, and volunteer at Feed My Starving Children. With all her involvement, she is still able to work part-time at Walgreens. Katie aspires to become a high school chemistry teacher following college.
