Round Lake, IL – AYSO Region 428 Round Lake is sending a U19 (under 19) girls team and a U16 (under 16) boys team to the AYSO 50th Anniversary National Games. The games will be held from June 29 to July 6 in Torrance, CA, where AYSO was founded in 1964.
With the games being held on the West Coast (the 2012 games were in Knoxville, TN), the cost to send both teams will cost almost $50,000. Fundraising efforts so far have netted only about $11,000. Freight Forwarder C.H. Robinson has given the largest business donation of $2000 with the remaining expense coming from the families. There are additional fundraisers ongoing, including a Golf Outing at Village Crossing on July 19.
A member of the Boys team broke his foot during the Section 6 games last weekend, but will still go as a gesture of support. The Girls team, which includes out of region players from Morton Grove, Vernon Hills and Mundelein, has lost 5 players from their roster of 16 due to injuries, eligibility requirements and family matters, so the expense per family has increased greatly.
“There are over 1,000 business in the Round Lake Area, and if each one gave $25, the impact on the families would be reduced,” says U16 Boys Assistant Coach, Gary Luz. AYSO Region 428 celebrates 30 years this year in serving the Round Lake, Grayslake, Hainesville and Lake Villa areas, and recently celebrated a Sportmanship Award and 3rd place Medal win in competition during the Section 6 games for their U-14 (under 14) boys team. According to Regional Commissioner and U16 Boys Head Coach Joe Nadeau, “AYSO 428 Region Round Lake repeatedly proves that a soccer program is not only affordable but also teaches young players the necessary skills to be successful both on and off the pitch”
Any donations are welcome and can be mailed to AYSO Region 428, 814 Hart Rd, Round Lake, IL 60073 Information on the Golf outing can be found by going to the region website www.ayso428.org
