With the nice weather outside, I took a walk down to Round Lake and found that someone must be taking a soapy bath in it making the water quality very questionable.
I remember the days growing up on Chicago’s north side and coming out to Long Lake with friends to ski. It was many years later after I had moved to the Round Lake area that I drove past Sabatini’s on Long Lake and recognized it as where I had water skied. I also noticed the soapy water line caused by all of the septics in the area and remembered how many gallons of that murky water I must have swallowed learning to ski.
Now I am seeing the same thing along the shores of Round Lake due to existing septics as well as runoff from major shopping centers. There are several large car washes in the villages which may also be a leading cause of the detergent in the lake. With the wind howling in the video below you can see the lake is being agitated just like your washing machine.
Tomorrow when it gets up to 70* outside you Mom’s can bring your kids down to the lakefront, along with a towel, and get them all cleaned up for bedtime.

I saw one pontoon boat already in the water ready for the new boating season.
Over the winter months as the ice was thawing, several fisherman were spotted out on the melting ice ignoring the warning signs. It seems as though these ducks had more sense than those fisherman and are obeying the ‘No Swimming” signs.
This homeowner had invested in three brand new trucks with fancy plows on them. When I walked past his house all winter long the plows eventually came off and have sat unused in his driveway. Maybe that is why the house is now for sale. It was a gamble and Mother Nature won.
