Round Lake Area Schools have one more reason to celebrate!
There is a new program in town and the students are raving about it at Round Lake Middle School!
Round Lake Second Saturday is hosted at the middle school on the second Saturday of every month thanks to one of the school’s strongest community partners, Lake Zurich Harvest Bible Chapel. Together, Round Lake Middle School and the Lake Zurich Harvest Bible Chapel have worked very closely to plan and implement the vision for this youth outreach program. “They have been instrumental in helping to get the community group off the ground” says Principal Jeff Prickett.
According to participating middle school students, RL2S, the abbreviation they affectionately coined the program as, has become a youth leadership mentoring program for the community.
Every month students from across the district eagerly await the event date. A typical Saturday morning begins with participating youth enjoying a hot, team breakfast, a physical activity with their teams, a small group activity, and then one on one time with their mentor. “It is almost like a teen center,” noted Principal Prickett.
The school supports the program by involving their 8th grade mentors and providing the building space needed to host the festivities. Harvest Bible Chapel provides certified sponsors, who also go through an intense criminal background check, to ensure the students receive quality support and guidance during their time in the program.
In the month of March, the team created a large mural that featured images and words centered around friends, family and the RL2S program itself.
Due to popular demand, both Principal Prickett and Harvest Bible Chapel are interested in continuing their partnership into the summer, and also getting more elementary students from around the district involved. “We would love to expand the program,” noted Prickett.
