Today, Illinois State Senator Suzi Schmidt announced that she had decided against a run for re-election. This followed Schmidt’s recent announcement that she was staying in the race despite numerous 911 phone call recordings were released in which she appeared to be misusing her political position.
Back in late July, Michael Bond announced “After careful consideration, I have decided not to seek the Democratic nomination for Congress in the 10th District, and will instead seek re-election to the Illinois Senate”.
That now leaves the Republican base with Larry Leafblad as the lone candidate. Leafblad didn’t mince any words when it came to talking about Schmidt’s problems, calling her “wounded” and “She’s got a pile of negative that will cost her in a tight race”
