AFP Pension Reform Townhall Meeting – Gurnee Video

Round Lake Area News
Americans For Prosperity held a Pension Reform Townhall Meeting July 2nd at the Warren Township Center. The moderator of the event was Illinois State Director, David W. From, who along with Vice President of Policy, Ted Dabrowski, presented a pretty sad picture of the State of Illinois pension funds. It was also pointed out that Illinois has the WORST credit rating of all 50 States. Each household in Illinois currently owes $41,000 towards the State's deficit and audience members were asked what that amount could be spent on otherwise, such as better housing, their child's education, etc.       Currently, one-third of education spending goes towards pensions. By 2025 that figure will grow to one-half and by 2045 to a whopping three-quarters. It

Round Lake Area News
Speaking to a packed crowd at Thursday's "March Madness - A Cinderella Story" FUNdraiser, Democratic candidate for Circuit Court Clerk, Cynthia Pruim Haran, said "I don't think Lake County (voters) know what they are in for over the next few months!" To a cheering audience, Pruim Haran said she learned a lot during her previous bid for public office, winning the endorsement of all the major newspapers while losing by a slim margin. This time around she vowed to not let that happen and will be much more aggressive, especially when it comes to getting out the vote on election day. There was plenty of great food and beverages for all who attended the Fatmans Pizza Pub event, with many local dignitaries in attendance. Did Rep. Walsh Actually Apologize to Melissa?

Political Issues
I have read on several occasions that Melissa Rakestraw, the District 8 constituent who went toe-to-toe with Congressman Joe Walsh on November 6th, wished that I had kept the camera rolling after the meeting so viewers could hear what Walsh said to her after the meeting. Just when I thought this story had lost its legs, we read in today's Daily Herald an article by reporter Kerry Lester quoting Melissa as saying: He never said, 'I'm sorry'" "(He) came up and talked to me face to face. He did thank me for coming." I went back and reviewed the last few minutes of my vidotape and clipped the last portion so that viewers could decide for themselves. Since Walsh had his back to the camera, the audio is a challenge to make out but I will let you decide what it is that he said. The...

Yankees Getting the Hang of Roundabouts ~ VIDEO

Round Lake Area News
Yankees seem to be taking a liking to those weird Euro-style traffic circles that they fondly call "Roundabouts". There are now two new ones in our area on Hunt Club Road at both Wadsworth Road and at Millburn Road. Back in July I had uploaded a video of the first one that was completed at Wadsworth Road. The latest one at Millburn Road was opened to traffic on October 11, 2011. According to illuminated signs, there are still going to be temporary lane closures starting November 16th. What I found encouraging is how well us Yankees are adapting to these creatures. As you can see in the video below, drivers seem to be embracing the roundabouts and traffic appears to be moving smoothly. During the time that I was there filming the video I didn't hear a single horn blow or screeching brak...
