Memorial Day Parade – Round Lake Area 2012

What better way to spend a beautiful weekend then to end it with a parade? The Round Lake Area held their annual Memorial Day Parade honoring those who have served, those who are serving, and those who have made the ultimate sacrifice with their lives. The parade included a ceremony at the Round Lake Memorial at Rt. 134 and Cedar Lake Rd. followed by a longer ceremony at the Round Lake Beach Veterans Park. Both the parade video and ceremony video are included below. 2012 Round Lake Area Memorial Day Parade Schedule

This years Round Lake Area Memorial Day Parade will be on Monday, May 28th and will follow the same route as in previous years, starting at the VFW Hall on Rt. 134 in Round Lake Park and ending at the Veteran's Memorial in Round Lake Beach at Cedar Lake Road and Clarendon. The parade will kick-off at 10:00 AM and the weather is supposed to be agreeable. I will be out and about taking photos which I will post later on Monday. I hope to see everyone out enjoying the parade.

Round Lake District 116 School Registration in Progress

The Round lake Area School District 116 "Early Bird" registration is already in progress even though the last day of the 2011-12 school year will be Tuesday, May 29. The FIRST day of school for the Round Lake Area 2012-2013 school year is August 21st There are various ways to sign up for the new school year including online and mail-in/drop off registration open until May 25, 2012. The link in the following flier for the school is not active so if you want to visit the school's new updated website, it is located at www.RLAS-116.org

Round Lake School Based Clinic Will NOT Contact Parents!

Brenda Bannor who is the spokesperson for the proposed Round Lake School Based Clinic made it quite clear at the recent community meeting that when a student utilizes the services of the clinic, the parent will NOT be notified. That is because once a parent signs off on a "blanket" authorization form, the SBC can prescribe any meds and perform any medical procedures they feel necessary without including notification to the parent(s). Their desire is to take FULL advantage of the Illinois law that allows confidentiality between the health care provider and the underage student. The Round Lake Area SBC wants to get between the parents, relatives, siblings, and ministers when it comes to someone a student normally would confide in.
