CenCom Supervisor awarded Illinois Apco Communication Supervisor of the Year
State award: CenCom E9-1-1 Public Safety Communications Center announced that Communication Supervisor Taryn Sofie has been selected as the Illinois Association of Public-Safety Communications Officials (APCO) Supervisor of the Year for 2014. She received her award last week at the Illinois Public Safety Telecommunications Annual Conference in Springfield. The purpose of Illinois APCO, according to their constitution, is “To foster the development and progress of the art of Public-Safety Communication … to the end that safety of human lives, the protection of property and the general welfare of all peoples concerned may be benefited to the highest degree.” Taryn Sofie, who has been a Supervisor with CenCom E9-1-1 since March of 2012, was nominated by her co-workers.
Taryn Sofie is one of four supervisors at CenCom. CenCom currently dispatches for 7 police departments and 4 fire departments. Not only is Taryn Sofie a great dispatcher but she is a phenomenal leader. Taryn Sofie’s work ethic, positive attitude, and sense of humor make her a pleasure to work with. Taryn Sofie is the supervisor in charge of scheduling, LEADS agency coordinator, and training and took the lead with revamping the training manual. The new manual includes hyperlinks and is a live document on all computers for everyone to access. Taryn Sofie’s professionalism and talent is an asset to our center. She is a leader we can look up to and a coworker we can turn to when we are in need.
