Veteran Receives Mortgage-Free Home in Round Lake Beach

Thanks to Operation Homefront and JPMorgan Chase

Chicagoland native Ronald Tarasiewicz was so moved by the attacks of 9/11 during grade school that as soon as he finished high school, he was ready to join the military and give back to the community. He also wanted a positive change that would afford him a better life and opportunity. Born in Oak Park and raised in Berwyn, Illinois, Ronald joined the Army in 2007.

As a sergeant, Ronald served as a team leader in human resources. His duties included providing administrative support to an assigned infantry battalion. He would also coordinate schedules and trainings with his battalion commander and sergeant major. In 2009, he was deployed to Afghanistan. After serving for five years, he was honorably discharged in 2012 and suffers from post-traumatic stress.

Ronald and his wife, Crystal, have been married for eight years. They have two sons, Jayden, 5, and Jacob, 3. They are currently renting a small two-bedroom townhome in Hanover Park, Illinois with no room for expansion. His immediate family lives in the Chicagoland area. One day while listening to the local country radio station, he heard an advertisement about Operation Homefront’s Homes on the Homefront program. He researched it further and applied for a home.

Thanks to Operation Homefront and Chase, Ronald will receive a mortgage-free home in Round Lake Beach, Illinois. His future plans are to live in the house forever and take care of his family. Ronald states that receiving this home has lifted so much stress and a huge burden off of his shoulder’s. He and his wife plan to renew their wedding vows after moving into the home. Both also plan on going back to school to earn a degree in business management.

“It means the world to us,” said Ronald. “I am glad that receiving this home we can be stable and not move around so much.”

“My children are going to build lasting friendships and start their lives in a permanent place,” added Ronald. “I would express that there is no way that we can ever be more thankful for Operation Homefront’s Homes on the Homefront program and the amazing partnership with Chase. You all do wonderful things for veteran families.”

Ron works for Amtrak as a material control district coordinator and generally drives or catches the train to Union Station. Crystal works as a receptionist at a medical facility in Schaumburg.

Their new 1600 S.F. home which was built in 1993 is located in Country Walk and has 3 bedrooms, 2.1 baths, family room, fireplace, and 2-car garage. It is fully applianced and has an additional 860 S.F. finished lower level that includes a 4th bedroom and rec room. The property has been completely remodeled with fresh paint, trim, flooring, and landscaping. The yard is fully fenced and there is a nice deck off the dining area. Current market value is probably in the $180,000 – $200,000 price range. They were presented with the keys to the property by Maurjon Alston who is the local area Operation Homefront caseworker along with a Chase representative from the Elgin branch.
