Storm and Tornado Warnings sends everyone scrambling to the Cultural Center basement
An unexpected, fast approaching storm along with tornado warnings caused the Emergency Management Team to spring into action, clearing the midway as well as the rides. Everyone, including vendors, were told to seek immediate shelter in the Round Lake Beach Cultural & Civic Center. With the storm set to hit at about 4:40 everyone was asked to move to the basement of the building until any severe weather passed. After a little over 30 or 40 minutes the all-clear was given and people were allowed back upstairs. Most headed for their cars since the grounds were becoming one big mudhole and the food vendors area was underwater. The band that was scheduled to play from 5-7 (Transformation) quickly started gathering up their equipment on the main stage before the rain started. A few of the members of Infinity who were scheduled to play from 9-11 were still deciding on whether or not to hang around and set up. As you can see in the video, most everyone had left for the night including myself around 6:00. I was able to get some nice photos of the Bike Show although the contestant turnout was low due to the possibility of rain. Below is also a quick look at the Crafter’s Market that was being held inside the Cultural Center. It will be interesting to see how things go on Sunday since many of the outside vendors had their wares soaked since all they had was a small tent cover and little time to pack up and get to safety.
