Land needed for the widening of Washington Street
At a specially held meeting prior to the regular monthly Avon Township Board meeting on June 9, 2014, registered voters in attendance approved the sale of a portion of land fronting the Avon Township Center to Lake County. The Lake County Division of Transportation needs this land in order to widen Washington Street from Cedar Lake Road to Hainesville Road. The amount being paid was determined from an appraisal that was done in late 2011 and offered fair market value of $15,000 for the land in addition to $13,500 as reimbursement to Avon Township for the added costs of relocating and hooking back up the electronic sign and restoring the landscaping (total $29,900). Supervisor Lisa Rusch pointed out that although the appraisal was done back in 2011, values have since dropped and it would be a mistake to seek a new appraisal. Those in attendance apparently agreed as appointed moderator, Kevin DeLaMar called for the vote. The funds will go into the General Account and used for such things as parking lot maintenance, etc.
