Chang Jiang Buffet, GNC, Check Into CASH, Sears Optical, & Sally Beauty Supply’s new locations
I stopped by to talk with the remaining Mallard Creek Plaza tenants to find out what their future plans were due to the new Meijer store coming to town which means the old vacant Walmart and Dominick’s as well as the existing buildings in between them will be torn down. The first thing I noticed was that the sign for Sally Beauty Supply had been taken down and there was a note on the front door showing that they had already moved to 272-B East Rollins Road which puts them in a very nice location between Payless Shoe Source and Hallmark near Kohl’s.
The young man at GNC (General Nutrition Center) informed me that they were in lease negotiations to rent 1/2 of the vacant Hollywood Video store next to American Mattress near Buffalo Wild Wings. He said that their anticipated move date was the end of July.
Donna Gillette, the manager at Check Into CASH, informed me that they had already signed a new lease agreement for the vacant unit next to Rosati’s Pizza at 702 E. Rollins Road with an anticipated move date of June 23rd.
The optician at Sears Optical told me that “Corporate” was in negotiation with the plaza landlord to lease one of the other units near Rosati’s Pizza, as well, but nothing had been finalized.
The person I spoke with at Chang Jiang Buffet restaurant said that the owner had not found a suitable location yet. They currently have about 6,000 S.F. and they would have to make the decision to find the same size location or eliminate 1/2 of their seating capacity and go with just 4,000 S.F. When I mentioned the old Blockbuster Video store (that is now occupied by Speedy Mattress) he told me that it would have been too small. I’ve always admired the beautiful brick building that first opened as a carpet store just west of Walgreen’s and is now a pawn shop. The parking at that location would be an issue, though.
