Community Radio Station’s Open Invitation to the Public
ROUND LAKE HEIGHTS, IL – The 4th Annual Geo Awards will be held on Saturday, August 24, 2013 at 6 PM at the Round Lake Beach Cultural and Civic Center, located at 2007 Civic Center Way in Round Lake Beach. Each year WRLR 98.3 holds this event to honor the people and organizations that have contributed their time, effort and financial support to keep the community station operating. Individual tickets are available for $25 or a table of 8 for just $175—that’s one free ticket! The public is welcome to attend.
The Geo Award is named after the late Senator Adeline Geo-Karis who was well known in Lake County as “Geo”. She was an early supporter of the station and helped it obtain funding to acquire broadcast equipment.
“We are grateful for our volunteers and sponsors who keep us on the air every day,” said Bish Krywko, President of WRLR. “They are the key to our success!”
The award categories vary from year to year and have included quality programming produced in a consistent manner, recognition of volunteers who have given consistent service hours and always have the best interests of WRLR at heart, and others who go out of their way to promote WRLR in the community. WRLR also recognizes the generosity of numerous businesses or organizations with the “Outstanding Sponsors” award, for their belief in the station’s mission to serve the communication needs of local residents, and their role in keeping the station on the air another year through either funding or service donations.
Providing entertainment will be Elvis tribute singer Dave ‘Elvis’ Thomas and Andre Reilly and the Giants.
Thomas, a Frankfort, IL resident has been an Elvis tribute artist for 23 years. He has performed at all the casinos in Illinois and Indiana and has been featured on television shows. Thomas performed at Six Flags Great America in Gurnee for 15 years. His shows cover all eras of Elvis’ songs. In 2010 he took 4th place in the Midwest Tribute to the King competition held in Springfield IL. Many of his fans are unaware that he is also ordained to marry people.
Andre, is an extremely skillful rock guitarist far beyond his age, he’s 10. He will play at the Geo Awards with his band Andre and The Giants, comprised of members Michael Reilly on drums (Andres’ father), Joe Freer on guitar and Denny Dee on Bass. Andre is an amazing musical prodigy, starting out at age 7, who has already rocked at Penny Road Pub in Barrington, IL covering Ozzy Osbourne’s “Over The Mountain”, a Metal version of the Beatles “Come Together”, and did Jimi Hendricks”Voo Doo Child”. He easily plays difficult riffs on “Iron Maiden’s “The Trooper” and Metallica’s “Enter Sandman”.
His parents, Marcia and Michael Reilly M.D. say Andre “took to music like a fish to water” and is comfortable playing everything from blues rock to heavy metal. Andre has a strong work ethic and passion for wanting to better himself and routinely practices 2 to 3 hours a day. As such a young performer there is within him an uncanny comfort level and knack in engaging an audience. Andre is one of the youngest students of classical guitar at Harper College. He is currently working at High Touch Studios to record his original song “POP BOY”. The Reilly family hails from Fox River Grove in McHenry County.
Food at the Geo Awards will be from Ania’s Deli and Catering from Round Lake Beach and Lake Zurich. Dinner will be served buffet style and will feature a variety of homemade style meat dishes of Baked Chicken, Stuffed Cabbage and fresh Polish Sausage with Onions. There will also be hot sides of Cheese Blintzes and a big selection of Pierogies in meat, potato, cheese, sauerkraut and mushroom. And that’s not all… Potato Pancakes and Stuffed Breaded Mushrooms will be served too. Two salads will complete the buffet – Green Salad with dressings and Cucumbers in Sour Cream.
