Ex-Goldman Sachs chief slams Warren over new campaign ad

Blankfein, who stepped down from his roles as chairman and chief executive of the historic investment bank last year, is one of several billionaires referenced in a one-minute video Warren’s campaign rolled out Wednesday to promote her “wealth tax” proposal.

The ad also features clips of hedge fund manager Leon Cooperman, former TD Ameritrade CEO Joe Ricketts and Silicon Valley venture capitalist Peter Thiel knocking Warren’s candidacy, as well as graphics showing the businessmen’s net worths.

“So here’s the deal. You built a great fortune? Good for you,” Warren says in the spot, addressing a packed rally crowd.

“I guarantee you built it at least in part using workers all of us help pay to educate, getting your goods to market on roads and bridges all of us help pay to build,” she continues. “We’re Americans. We want to make these investments. All we’re saying is when you make it big, pitch in two cents so everybody else gets a chance to make it.”

As Warren competes for her party’s nomination to challenge President Donald Trump in 2020, she has drawn some criticism from fellow Democrats for her sustained attacks on big corporations and the financial elite.

Her plan for an “ultra-millionaire” tax aimed at highest-earning Americans would create a 2 percent wealth tax on those with a net worth above $50 million and impose an additional 1 percent on net worth above $1 billion.
