‘There’s a lot of fishy stuff going on’: Tenants displaced in Gurnee fire claim little help from management

Tenants left homeless after an apartment building fire in Gurnee on Oct. 1 said they were surprised to learn in a newspaper article that the management of the Carriage House apartment homes told Fire Department officials that it was going to find accommodations for residents displaced by the early-evening blaze.

Melissa Dennis, speaking on behalf of her cousin Heidi and her roommate David — both of whom, she said, are mentally handicapped and tenants at Carriage House — was among those disputing the notion that management helped the approximately dozen tenants living at the apartment building before the fire at 545 Gillings Drive.
