A Vernon Hills man who was fatally shot by police last week pointed an air rifle at the responding officer and wouldn’t obey orders to stand down, according to a Thursday news release from the Lake County Major Crime Task Force.
The Vernon Hills officer was responding to a domestic call at 1:40 a.m. Sept. 15 in the 100 block of Marimac Lane when upon arrival he found Randy Rausch, 34, with a rifle inside the garage, according to a statement issued after the incident.
The main door to the garage was closed and the officer was approaching an open side door when he noticed the rifle, according to Christopher Covelli, spokesman for the task force.
The officer “gave several commands to Rausch to drop the rifle,” according to Thursday’s news release. The officer fired his weapon when Rausch pointed the gun at him, according to the release.Original Source
